Doing a rain dance.....

I'm not a big fan of rain, but the garden's so dry, I have been doing a bit of a rain dance....  Actually, I've been watering the garden and everything looks very clean and fresh now (even the weeds!) so some pics - although no sun, so not brilliant.

This border used to be very dark when we moved here nearly 2 years ago - there was a very thick hedge, which we took out and replaced with a fence. I'd prefer a hedge, but we were doing lots of building work and just wanted something quick.

Before -
And now (needs to fill out, obviously), but looking better -

The flower bed on the other side -
Herb bed - (Mr VTT grows veg on the allotment) -
Oh, well - no sun and no rain....Better get back to painting - done the undercoat on this table - now for Farrow and Ball Pigeon......

Enjoy your week!

  5. Like you, no sun and no rain. In fact we are now officially in a drought in this area, and have had no significant rain for two months. Further round the coast I believe they had rain, but it missed us, as per usual. Everywhere is so dry, and although the water authorities say there won't be a hosepipe ban and reservoirs are at 80% which is normal for the time of year, I do wonder if it wouldn't be prudent to introduce the ban, to preserve stocks of water. Rather than have a panic when it begins to run out. Having said that, if you believe the long term forecasters, we will pay for the good weather with a bad July and August!

  6. What a lovely garden you have and your plants look so lush and green. Although it has rained quite a bit here it hasn't made much difference to the garden as the strong breeze has blown things dry almost immediately:)

  7. You can have our rain - we seem to have gone back a few weeks - we actually had the heating on yesterday!

Lovely garden - you are so lucky to have a walled area.

F& B Pidgeon hmm. One I have yet to try. I am really enjoying painting furniture.

  8. Yes, lots of time is spent watering - it being so windy doesn't help with the poor plants either! I love the wall you have down the side of your garden and it looks like you've got lovely views.x

  9. I see Mr VTT's wall is still standing and looking great, he did a fab job. Lovely garden and your view is wonderful too, across those fields. Today we've had a bit of rain here in Wiltshire but nothing to make any difference to the garden. Do you know what the plants in photo 7 are? I have them too and I love the way that water just sits like sparkly jewels on the leaves. Have a good week. Lesley x

  10. Your garden looks a lovely place to sit and relax, with lots of lovely flowers to look at and that beautiful view! I love the alchemilla like the lady above - shame it's a bit of a thug in my small garden, completely taking over!

  13. What a lovely garden you have and how lucky you are to be backing onto fields. I love that plant in the photo above the clematis (the one which seems to repel the water, I'm not sure what it's called. Still no rain here in Hampshire either.

  17. Thankyou for the name of the plant, Abby. I first saw it in the garden of Jane Austen's house and my friend I was with gave me some from her garden. So it always reminds me of a lovely day out!

  24. Hello:
Your garden is looking very pretty and looks to have appreciated the watering. It is so distressing to see plants suffer in arid conditions but no amount of hand watering is ever as good, we believe, as a good soaking by Mother Nature.

We had a house and garden in the Welsh March for 25 years and so know Leominster very well indeed. Perhaps we may have seen your stall at some point? You certainly have some most attractive pieces and they are beautifully displayed.

We have found you via another blog and are pleased that we have chanced upon you. We shall return.

  30. Your garden is looking so pretty. I love the new border and all the cottage garden flowers, and the pretty bench. And the colour of the newly painted table is fab. Don't think I've used F&B pigeon before but will add it to my list of possible shades - it looks lovely there.
