Borderlines Film Festival and PS

Should you happen to find yourself in Herefordshire, Shropshire or the Welsh borders in the next two weeks, there's an excellent Film Festival on - Borderlines - more info here - BORDERLINES

"The UK’s largest and most impressive rural film festival, Borderlines Film Festival (1 – 17 March), springs into a second decade with its distinctive brand of the very best of cinema from around the world and close to home.

This year the Festival comprises a record 90 separate films and events in over 200 screenings in 39 venues of all shapes and sizes over 2,000 square miles of Herefordshire, Shropshire and the Welsh borders.

Oscar and BAFTA-nominated films, including multiple award contenders Life of Pi and Silver Linings Playbook (nominated for Best Picture, Directing and all four of the acting categories) are well represented as are the controversial manhunt thriller Zero Dark Thirty and, at Flicks in the Sticks venues, the stunning debut feature Beasts of the Southern Wild."

There are old films, like Babette's Feast and The Lodger -

and new films, such as Beasts of the Southern Wild and Quartet -

Some films are shown at The Courtyard Centre for the Arts in Hereford -

(This is a hugely valuable resource in such a rural area, but is sadly losing a good deal of funding this coming year)

But many films are shown in Village halls, community Centres, etc - 'Flicks in the Sticks'.

Well worth a visit!

POST SCRIPT GOOD NEWS! - Today's local paper reports that the local Council are going to matchfund the Art Council funding for The Courtyard after all - last week's paper said that they definitely weren't!

  1. Sounds like a wonderful local film festival. I remember loving Babbette's Feast when I saw it, a few years ago now. I'd like to see Quartet at some point:)

  2. Had a look at their website: how sad if they lose so much funding they can't continue to exist.
I haven't seen Babette's Feast but one look at that screen shot, and I've made it a March resolution!

  3. Living a rural life has it's great joys, but access to unusual, non-mainstream films is always a bonus. We have a well supported film society in the market town nearby and it's a real asset.
