Anyone know what this is? - It's about 8 ins square -
Presumably given away with a mag called Modern Home? - in 1929 -
I got it from a flea market, along with this lovely old 'Illuminated Scripture Text Book' -
Not in good condition, sadly - (?paraffin oil) -
But lovely inside -
And I've been playing with my blocks! -
Whilst having a cup of tea -
and thinking about restoring this old sewing box - I've started (after this photo) painting it, but it's not easy to paint!! -
Have a lovely weekend!
What a lovely work box, I have a couple similar and you have made me think about doing them up!
ReplyDeleteI love the willow pattern thing - lovely x
Gorgeous book, knew those blocks would look good..
ReplyDeleteGorgeous finds, my hubby would love to know if the illuminated scripture text book is for sale please?? You find some gorgeous things.
ReplyDeleteJo xx
Hi, Jo - yes, happy to sell the book - but it is in poor condition. The back has come off completely and many pages have the ?oil stain. I'll pop to your blog / see if I can email you.... Abby x
ReplyDeleteHi Abby
ReplyDeleteMy email is hestanesta@hotmail.co.uk. Andy is a collector and loves illuminated manuscript books just for the work that goes into them. He doesn't mind the condition. Speak soon.

Whenever I read your blog, it always makes me want to collECT things. But I never do, because I'm such a terrible thrower-away of stuff and completely ruthless.
ReplyDeleteLike Fran, you inspire me to collect too. That book is wonderful! xxx
ReplyDeleteGreat items.....where to start your little booth is going to be a hit and hard to keep stocked with such wonderful items...you have an eye!!
ReplyDeletehiya- I had one of those cloths once, and was told it was to go over the top of a pudding basin whilst steaming.
ReplyDeleteDon't know if thats correct, but I rather liked the thought of it!
Love the building blocks

Great finds ... :0)

I think the willow plate would be great with some embroidery embellishing parts of the pattern and then framed...
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw your linen cloth I imagined it over a steamed suet puddding - as ted and bunny has mentioned. Lovely sewing box and book:)
ReplyDeleteYou do dind some lovely things! xx
ReplyDeleteshould say "find" xxx

Nina x
Just came over to wish you a happy Valentine's Day my friend. oxxoxo
ReplyDeleteooh that book is a treasure. The linen not sure but is it the willow pattern ?
ReplyDeletePainting the sewing box does look fiddly & time consuming !
Yes, the linen has a willow pattern on it. I doubt it's a hankie - too coarse. I like the idea of it being a pudding basin top! Forgot to ask mother-in-law at the weekend - must ask her next week. Finished paiting the sewing box now - it looks much better - labour of love though!
ReplyDeleteLook at all that gorgeous stuff! Yes, I think pudding basin top is the right way to go.
ReplyDeleteI love that sewing box and am very impressed that you took on painting it!
