Borderlines Film Festival and PS

Should you happen to find yourself in Herefordshire, Shropshire or the Welsh borders in the next two weeks, there's an excellent Film Festival on - Borderlines - more info here - BORDERLINES

"The UK’s largest and most impressive rural film festival, Borderlines Film Festival (1 – 17 March), springs into a second decade with its distinctive brand of the very best of cinema from around the world and close to home.

This year the Festival comprises a record 90 separate films and events in over 200 screenings in 39 venues of all shapes and sizes over 2,000 square miles of Herefordshire, Shropshire and the Welsh borders.

Oscar and BAFTA-nominated films, including multiple award contenders Life of Pi and Silver Linings Playbook (nominated for Best Picture, Directing and all four of the acting categories) are well represented as are the controversial manhunt thriller Zero Dark Thirty and, at Flicks in the Sticks venues, the stunning debut feature Beasts of the Southern Wild."

There are old films, like Babette's Feast and The Lodger -

and new films, such as Beasts of the Southern Wild and Quartet -

Some films are shown at The Courtyard Centre for the Arts in Hereford -

(This is a hugely valuable resource in such a rural area, but is sadly losing a good deal of funding this coming year)

But many films are shown in Village halls, community Centres, etc - 'Flicks in the Sticks'.

Well worth a visit!

POST SCRIPT GOOD NEWS! - Today's local paper reports that the local Council are going to matchfund the Art Council funding for The Courtyard after all - last week's paper said that they definitely weren't!

'And if one green bottle.....'

Found a box of bottles today - just been sorting them / washing them, etc. I particularly like the blue ones -

Lucky to find lots of cloths too - such pretty embroidery -

Very cold here today, after yesterday's Spring-like weather. But some brave souls showing in the garden -

These Tete a tete daffodils are peeping through - they were planted after we'd used them as table decorations at youngest daughter's wedding a couple of years ago -

The wedding was yellow / green themed -

Hope you're having a good week!

Home again, home again, jiggity jig.....

Back from a couple of days away now. We stayed at Walton Hall, Wellesbourne, near Stratford - a special deal via Woman and Home magazine (http://www.pumahotels.co.uk/offers/item/shop-woman-home-offer) - it was a stunning place (owned at one point by Danny La Rue!) -

The chandeliers in the dining room were amazing -

The production of The Winters Tale (Dir Lucy Bailey) we went to see was also brilliant - a really good production. The computer generated images on the backdrops were superb -

Prior to the theatre we had a lovely meal at Carluccio's -

The Lemon sorbet was delicious! -

Yesterday, we went to Barn Antiques - a few miles from Stratford - BARN  - and I rather coveted this sweet cupboard in the cafe there! -

Some interesting units there - a good mix of different styles -

Bought a few items for my unit while we were away - like this child's chair -

And this unusual wire windmill - ? -

Off for some pasta now - pretty chilly here!

Off to Stratford.....

Off to Stratford-on-Avon today for a couple of nights. Going to see The Winters Tale tonight. Really looking forward to getting away, however briefly, as we've had a horrible, depressing bug here for the last 10 days or so. Seems to be finally on its way out, thank goodness.

Some crocuses emerging in the garden -

And the hellebores are coming out -

Indoors, some Spring bulbs -

Last Friday we took Tilly and Ruby out -

Ruby wasn't at all sure about this bear! -

Have a good week!

Nothing but blue skies..............

Lovely blue skies today (though very cold!) -

I usually go to Abergavenny (Y Fenni in Welsh) on a Wednesday - and always pass this little church at Llangua - v pretty -

Found some good things today - bit of a flowery theme..... A pretty tin jug with fabric roses, and a rosy half moon rug - (not long 'til Valentine's Day) -

The rug looked better after a surface wash -

Found a pretty china jug, too, though it is chipped (and it doesn't have the bowl!) -

A lovely embroidered bed cover caught my eye - though I had thought it was much older than it seems. The hand embroidery is beautiful, but the fabric seems fairly modern -

Pretty flowers, though -

And a useful little side table, painted -

Hope you're having a good week!
