Flowers in the House - February

Joining in with Jane at smallbutcharming for February's Flowers in the house............

Although our garden is small, there are quite a few Hellebore plants, because I love them - magic at this cold, grey time of year. The flowers don't keep for long indoors (any tips?  I've tried hot water, iced water, heat sealing the stems....), but these lasted a day or two -

Hyacinths and tulips - the hyacinths smell delicious! -

Bought some pretty blue and white plates this week from a charity shop (op shop in USA?) -

Bought this turquoise jug too from a charity shop - very cheap! - it's the colour of the sea in the Med in high summer! -

I love this blue colour, as you can see! - the shell's from New Zealand, the photo is our 3 year-old grand-daughter, Ruby -

Snowdrops in the garden too - here, with some Rosemary -

I have a lovely painting of snowdrops too, by Kathy Lewis - a local artist -

This is a photo of our eldest grandchild (now 13!), in a flowery frame I bought ages ago, made of bits of china - I thought this would be easy to do myself and tried it, but it wasn't as easy as it looks! -

And some flowery plates in my cupboard (hutch in USA?) -

I've enjoyed putting this post together, as a respite from the torrential rain and cold weather here!

Roll on Spring!

  1. What a pretty, springlike post! Love your pictures from around your home, and especially like the idea of putting snowdrops with rosemary, as I've got both in my garden, I might have to just shamelessly be a copy cat! I've got some of those blue hyacinths too ... don't they smell divine? Mine are growing in a pot, being propped up by chopsticks and lace ribbon, but think they might be better off in a vase ...

    Have a Happy Monday

    1. Copy cat away! The Rosemary keeps the snowdrops more upright. I did have a Happy Monday, thank you! X

  2. It all looks so spring-y and pretty! And how lovely to see the paua shell in amongst your flowers. I love hellebores too, but they are funny things in a vase. Some droop instantly and others last for ages, and it's a mystery to me as to the whys and wherefores! Hope things warm up for you soon.

    1. Yes, it's pretty cold and grey here. Couldn't remember the name of the shell, thanks! Abby x

  3. I have never seen a frame made out of china pieces before. It's lovely.

  4. Beautiful flowers, and what great finds. Everything is looking lovely at yours, as ever. The photo frame is a really clever use of pretty bits of china. I can imagine how tricky it is to do though. I hope you have a good week.

  5. An abundance of spring at your house!'

I would call it a thrift shop, your charity shop.

My snowdrops never seem to get long enough to pick but if they too, I too shall be copying your beautiful arrangement.

And all those blues, my favorite color.

Thank you for brightening up this winters day.

  6. The hellebore flowers are so pretty and I like the blue hyacinths with your pretty blue china and snowdrops with rosemary - what a great idea. I love all the blues in your photos:)

  7. What beautiful flower displays. I've tried floating the hellebore heads on a shallow plate or bowl of water. I can't remember how long they lasted and I was able to view the flowers because they couldn't turn their heads downwards.

  10. I'm soaking up all these wonderful colors -- so tired of the white and gray here in the frozen north (Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA). I love the way you play with color, pairing the different elements, and setting off the flowers' colors just so! Beautiful compositions, all your sweet vignettes!

  16. What a colorful post! Perfect for a cold winter day. I LOVE that turquoise jug. What a beautiful color. Your house must feel like spring is already here!

  17. Ah, the turquoise! It murmurs "sea shore" to me. And freesia? haven't seen any here in the shops ... at least not yet. Planted some bulbs, but with this awful winter don't expect any to actually bloom. Thanks for all the cheerful color - we need it this year.

  24. Thank you for your kind words and visit. It is lovely and Springlike over here. I love Hellebores too. I put some on a heart shaped wreath for Valentine's Day, some are still perky but others have wilted. I do think that the fleeting flowers, like blossom and lilacs are the loveliest of all. I love your snowdrop painting, and I like that you put rosemary in with your pretty snowdrops. Blue and white china is always a favourite. Have a lovely Sunday, and let's hope the rain stays away. Love Linda x

  25. I love Hellebores, we have quite a few and I try to plant new ones each year - I'm afraid I only know about searing in boiling water so can't help on keeping them once cut front. I hope you had a sunny day, it peeped out here today and was glorious for a while, sadly I hear it wont last. Bethx
